Wow! I had a lovely surprise this morning to find that my blog has been shortlisted for the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards 2012 in the Change category. Thankyou all for voting for me.
The change category is for those bloggers who are raising awareness of a cause. This is a fabulous opportunity for me as this blog is just about that; seeking a change in people’s understanding of parenting special needs children. It’s also about raising awareness of autism and asperger syndrome and helping to reassure other parents and carers that they are not alone in the challenges they face.
Even though there are many positive moments of raising a special needs child, as there are with all children, bringing up a child with a disability or additional need can be a lonely, isolating and exhausting experience. Appointments with professionals, fighting for the right educational provision and seeking the right therapies to help our children can leave us so tired that we are at risk of developing our own health problems.
Blogging has helped me to deal with these pressures. It has become a form of therapy in a way but more importantly it has enabled me to feel part of a special community of parent bloggers as well as the online special needs community. It has been a privilege to be part of these communities and to meet some wonderful people who are all working hard towards raising awareness of many different issues. It has been an even greater privilege to showcase some inspirational guest bloggers, something which will be developed further on this blog for the future.
Once again, thankyou for supporting my blog. If you would like to see Aspie in the Family get through to the next round then you can vote for me by clicking here.
